More freedom, fewer rules, just as private

In talking with retirement communities across the country, we hear that before moving in, people say “I’m not ready, I’m not ready, I’m not ready”. And then after they move in they say, “Why did I wait so long?”

What people anticipate is a loss of freedom, lots of rules and loss of privacy.

What they actually find is that they gain freedom, there are no rules and they can be as private as they were in their previous homes. They have gained more freedom to do the things they want to do and more options. Someone else does the cooking, cleaning and activity planning. They can participate or not participate in the many options that are available on and off campus.

If continuing education is your thing, opportunities abound at The Cedars, at UNC and Duke Universities (at UNC for $15 you can audit any course), at the public library and through the Chamber of Commerce.

If volunteer work is your thing, there are the local schools, Ronald McDonald and Family House, and a myriad of other non-profits that help the less fortunate in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and surrounding areas.

Staying active keeps our minds and bodies strong and growing and increases the quality of our lives. Exercising your mind through the lectures, bridge games and other activities at The Cedars or other parts of Chapel Hill helps you and others. Socialization is better than isolation and loneliness and extends our lives.

Come learn more about The Cedars and ask our Members what being at The Cedars has meant to them.
